ISM Code Consulting That Connects the SMS With Real Operations

Independent support for shipowners, managers and DPA teams reviewing safety-management documentation, evidence, responsibilities and implementation readiness.

Build an SMS people can use and demonstrate

An effective safety management system is more than a manual prepared for an audit. It should translate company policy into clear responsibilities, controlled procedures, usable records, effective reporting and evidence of continuous improvement. We help clients examine how those elements connect and where practical gaps may remain.

Documentation without implementation

Procedures may exist, but interviews, records or onboard practice do not demonstrate consistent application.

Corrective actions that do not close

Findings repeat when root causes, ownership, verification and effectiveness reviews are unclear.

Unclear shore–ship responsibilities

Overlapping duties or weak escalation routes can delay decisions and reduce accountability.

What the engagement can include

The final scope is agreed around your organization, vessels, people, available evidence and intended outcome. Typical deliverables include:

  • SMS structure and document-control review
  • Gap register mapped to relevant ISM Code elements
  • Internal-audit and management-review readiness questions
  • Corrective-action and root-cause review framework
  • DPA, shore-team and onboard responsibility mapping
  • Training and familiarization priorities
  • Prioritized implementation roadmap
  • Follow-up review of agreed actions

Our consulting approach

1. Define the scope

Clarify the applicable requirement, decision, operational context and evidence needed.

2. Assess the current position

Review documentation, roles, competence, records and practical implementation without creating unnecessary paperwork.

3. Deliver a prioritized roadmap

Separate urgent gaps from longer-term improvement and assign practical actions, owners and review points.

Frequently asked questions

Do you issue statutory DOC or SMC certificates?

No. Statutory certification is issued by the relevant Administration or recognized organization. Our role is independent advisory and readiness support.

Can you review only one part of an SMS?

Yes. The scope may focus on document control, internal audits, corrective actions, management review, emergency preparedness or another defined area.

Is the service delivered remotely?

Document reviews, interviews, workshops and roadmap development can be delivered remotely. Any need for attendance is agreed separately.
